    An Actual Blog Post

So I have not worked on the Elfine socks in a while. I kept getting off track with the lace. So, I started another sock. I had to start a "normal"  top-down one. The sock on the left will be Fiber Trends Toe Jazz, a thong sock for flip-flops. The colors in the Lang Jawoll cotton/wool blend yarn go well with my Birkenstock thongs.  I have been working on the River Run socks some, as I am on the leg-and just have a few inches to go.

The pink Christmas cactus in my office is about to bloom, despite the fact that I might have remembered to put it
in the darkness at night about twice.

I have gotten the last shipment in my Fearless Fibers Seven Deadly Sins sock club. This installment, Greed, came with a  Knitspot pattern, Acorn Stash socks. You too, can have this kit from Anne and Deb if you wish. You really need to see Anne's poem. Hee hee..

    Secret Pal Package and Reveal

My Secret Pal 11, Deborah, sent me a great package today. It is cold and gray, and the goodies helped cheer me up immensely. She sent me tea, chocolate, yarn..what else do ya need? She also made me Christmas ornament, and sent a mug for my collection, and Crazy Aunt Purl's book, which I have been wanting. Thanks for a great SP 11, Deborah.  I decided not to reveal myself for a few days to my SP, as I found such a cute Secret Pal card.

    Blue, Blue...

I finished the flap and gusset heel, done backwards on my toe-up River Run sock (Wendy Knits) in Fearless Fibers Pride., but I have not been able to get an outside photo, so here is inside photo with flash. I had to do the heel twice because I got off-center the first attempt. My brain had to get used to going backwards, too. The heel is the usual slip 1, knit 1 type.

Yesterday, DH and I felt like we were having hot flashes in the kitchen. We had two Crock-pots, two ovens and all the burners on the stove going to get Thanksgiving lunch ready. We had herb-marinated turkey breast, apple-cider glazed pork tenderloin, sweet potato casserole, green beans with almonds, green peas, cornbread dressing and fruit salad and cranberry salad. We had to postpone dessert to mid-afternoon. I worked on my sock after all that.

Today, I went to Target and TJ Maxx, etc. and the mall in Oxford, AL. I took the back way down AL 9, through Piedmont and White Plains and Choccolaco. It was nice and peaceful, and quiet, with views of  autumn leaves with the sun shining through them, , until I got near the end of the bypass.near Golden Springs and I-20. Traffic was backed up from the shopping center to the interstate.  Target had no shopping carts left. I had to wait around for one. I went to a few stores, then went to a mattress store to shop for a new bed. It was nice and peaceful in there, compared to the bedlam of Best Buy and Tarzhay. I fell in love with a mattress that has silk, wool and alpaca in it.

DH says to say, "Roll Tide." He is going to the Iron Bowl tomorrow. I saw a lot of Auburn and Alabama regalia today on shoppers everywhere I went.

    Checklist

Well, let's see. Today, I got up, (late, because this is the only day this week that the library is open until 11 p.m., so I have to work late) and made a cranberry-grapefruit salad. It has gelatin, jellied cranberry sauce, grapefruit sections and pecans. DH's grandmother always made it for holiday dinners.

Yesterday. I made a sour cream pound cake, from my mother's recipe.. It has a missing section now, and it's not as photogenic. Had to check it out, as I have been known to make mistakes, ya know

    Cake .

Saturday before lunch I made a Sweet Potato Casserole with Praline Topping from a Cooking Light recipe. It is a lighter version of Sweet Potato Crunch, which my sister in law always made.

I baked a pan of cornbread before I left for the grocery store in the afternoon on Sat., then made cornbread dressing when I returned. These two are ready to be baked, once they come out of the freezer.

Oh yeah, I finished the Los Lobe Hose sockie earrings, then got sucked into a movie on Bravo, and sat there for 2 hours with my knitting on my lap, untouched. I did not think the movie was worthy of the DVR.

    Sockie-poo

I have had needles (size 0000, 4", people!) and the pattern for Carol's Sockery Los Lobe Hose sock earrings for a while.  So today I felt like tackling the pattern. Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock, Country Christmas colorway. I picked this shot because I can see the minor laceration on my middle finger from a needle. I got the needles from the Knitting Zone, not sure where I got the pattern. Click for larger.

    Old Project

This afghan, made mostly out some long discontinued Red Heart (Cashelle, I think) and a couple panels in wool was the last thing I knitted and finished in the early 1990s before I stopped knitting for about 10 years due to repetitive stress injury. The afghan covers the top of a double bed. It is Limerick, from a 1972 booklet called Fisherman Afghans by Spinnerin.  I lost the book, but I found a copy on eBay not long ago.

    Ooh, Look, Pups

So, I have been ripping on all my projects. Must be all the Food Network shows and old  Law & Order shows. I started the gusset on the blue sock, after ripping back a few rows. I worked on the Shaped Cardigan, after ripping out a few rows in the shaping section. I also messed up on Elfine's Socks and had to rip back. Anyway, the Bird of Paradise is budding for Thanksgiving. It has two buds.

I couldn't resist the chance to photograph my Sundara Bird of Paradise yarn for Ravelry.

Since someone wanted puppy photos, Honey was not impressed with the Bird of Paradise.

    Mah Sox iz Toe-up

My name is Paula,. and I am addicted to LOL Cats. Hmm, or my socks are knitted from the toe-up. The sock on the left has been restarted twice, because I had too many, then too few, stitches at the beginning. I have done very few toe-up socks. The right one has is my best looking short row heel ever. The blue, Wendy's River Run sock is serving as my easy knitting when I get tired of leaves. Blue is Pride from Fearless Fibers Seven Deadly Sins Sock Club, and the other is Fallen Leaves from Ball & Skein.

    Actual Short Row Heel

I mis-typed heel, and started to leave it as hell. OK, my first heel on my Elfine's Socks in Ball & Skein Fallen Leaves was holey, but this second attempt is acceptable. My wraps seemed loose the first time. I watched the DVD that Jess made for me when she was my Secret Pal 7-it even had Celtic music. It helped me a lot to remember how to pick up the wraps, but actually reading and following the directions worked too. I had left out the double wraps. Anyway, the heel does fit, just looks funny on the blocker. I used the Turkish Cast On for the toe.

Here is a Joseph's Coat rose, just because it is blooming. This thing has wicked thorns. This is the inspiration for yarn I got Scout to dye for me.

Also, here is my Saturday Sky photo that I took on Monday. It was sunny when I woke up to the blaze of gold from the maple tree. We have never had cable or satellite TV before. That is the antenna to the left. I can barely change the channel now without hitting the wrong button. There are lots of wrong buttons on the new remote.  DSL next Friday, yay! Much bigger bill from the phone company, boo! Of course it was necessary to stay up til midnight to see two more episodes of M*A*S*H (sic)
