A Finished Hat

I have been finishing a lot of projects recently, but have not had sunlight to take pictures. Today the sun came out, so I took a photo of my Taos beret in Crystal Palace Taos yarn, one of my stash-busting efforts. I also discovered lots of patterns for crocheted flowers, so I made a few and used up yarn scraps. I sewed the flower to a pin back and sewed on a "vintage" button.

Scarf Done at Long Last

DH was raking leaves and picking up pecans while I wandered around the yard with the entrelac scarf. Pattern is from Allison's blog. I guess since this is one of my longest term projects, it is also the most photographed. Noro Silk Garden 251.
 

Here is the pecan tree posing with the scarf. Notice the lack of leaves around the tree. We have been searching for pecans. I did pick up a handful-I had a scarf and camera in my hands. The tree is still loaded. Also, we still have apples. I froze seven pints on Wednesday.

Halfobi is Done

Halfobi is finally blocked and dried. Here are some photos from DH's photo shoot. The yarn is Silk Garden 225. It took about six skeins. I don't think my hair looks that gray in real life, does it? I am thinking I need a brighter color of shirt to wear with it, maybe purple.

Peanut seems happy about it.

Finished Mitts

It is too dark to photograph my knitting outside when I get home. When it was light outside, I did not have anything to photograph. I finished the Genmaicha mitts and the Halfobi. The Halfobi is blocking right now.

Speaking of mitts, I got the black Love yarn for Borgata Glovelets. (I keep getting the casino when I search.)

I had some photos from a week or so ago on my camera. This was the view from the 9th floor of my library.

I Remember...

I remember my father telling me about saving Japanese civilians after their ship hit a mine. I remember the page in the photo album, or funny book, with the handsome man in the dress whites with the tiny versions of my siblings. All I could find today was Daddy in his American Legion hat. He served in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific on the USS Brevard. Click to enlarge photo of the ship. (I notice they have the same photo that I scanned from a print.)

A couple of years ago on the Internet I came across photos of the Japanese civilians rescued by the crew of the Brevard. I think it is really interesting to see these. These images are from the Online Archive of California's Inventory of the Japanese American Relocation photograph collection. Dad would have said, "Seen 'em already." I found a certificate and little red transistor radio he got from Japan after the war. J.P. Barnett passed away in 1995.

DH's father was in the Navy during the Korean War. DH says he kept the Republic of China (AKA Taiwan) non-Communist while serving on the USS Phillipine Sea.  DH says he has heard many times the story of his Dad climbing Mt. Fuji.

Autumn Leaves

The theme of today's walk was apparently glowing red leaves. I spotted the oak tree on my way back home and had to go back to it.

I just wanted a photo of mimosa seed pods because they looked so weird. A cool wind was blowing and all the seed pod rattled.

Now I plan to knit. I also picked three baskets of apples and made applesauce and cranberry orange waffles.

Autumn Leaves and Cables

I finished one Genmaicha mitt, and restarted the other one, after I ripped it out because it was too small. I didn't say I wove in the ends, OK? Also, I think the second one is not bad for taking a photo of your right hand which balancing a DSLR in your left and wrapping your hand under it to reach the shutter button. The yarn is from Stacey Budge.

The mailman just brought yarn today and a couple days ago too. First my MALABRIGO sock yarn in Caribeno came in. I also got burgundy Northfield yarn (Merino/Alpaca/Silk), all from Webs.

I got yarn for being selected as a winner in Jane's contest to caption a photo of her cat. This is Some Assembly Required in Tonal Blue Spruce . Just what I needed for Waterlily Socks.

Finished Mrs. Beeton Mitts

I told the person for whom I made these that I did not charge enough for pain and suffering with the Rowan Kidsilk Spray. It was a pain to knit with, but it feels so soft and nice. It was not too bad stringing 108 seed beads onto it, (for both) and the pattern was not hard, once I figured out how to attach both ruffles.I did it wrong the first attempt and had to redo both ruffles.  It was the Kidsilk that was so much fun.  Mrs. Beeton from Knitty, Rowan Kidsilk Spray in Vino, and Rowan Cashsoft in Opulence. Both yarns from Ravelry destashers. My Halloween Cactus is still blooming.

Knitting and Dog Biscuits

I started on Mrs. Beeton mitts (Knitty) for a co-worker who simply had to have a pair. I got the yarn from Ravelry destashers. I have never worked with Rowan Kidsilk yarn before. I want to know why this stuff is called crack, OK? I had both ruffles done, and when I joined them, I got the cantankerous one (Kidsilk) inside out. I got such a mess that I frogged it completely, and frogged the well-behaved Rowan Cashsoft DK back to one row before the beaded row. (I wasn't even looking at Pierce Brosnan in whichever Bond movie was on USA at the time)

I also jumped on the cowl bandwagon. I have leftover sock yarn, hmm... This is ColorJoy Cushy Sport yarn from LynnH that has resisted efforts to make it into socks. (I think the color is Wild Women Don't Get the Blues.) Pattern is Stacked Eyelet Cowl. Ladybugs lit on my head, shoulder and nose while I was taking these photos.

Also, I got some dog biscuit mix from King Arthur Flour. I think it is a success. I was followed out in the yard by the dog herd. Cookie is still an impatient pup. Honey (far right in 2nd photo) left the horse manure she was about to roll in. She only looks ladylike.
