    Yet Another Sock and Bag

I tried yet again to make a shorter box bag. I think the secret is to sew the zipper in the short end, duh. I was inspired by Tonyia, after I found her blog with the easier squared corners technique. Anyway, this bag is rife with mistakes, but it matches my lnitting bag. The reason for the denim strip is that the zipper was already sewn in a leftover oiece from said bag. That is the beginning of Clessidra with the Knit Picks Gloss yarn.

I got some more fabric from a really neat place, the Fat Quarter Shop. It was packaged very nicely and arrived really fast. This is Moda Funky Monkey-it has sock monkeys! The fabric underneath is inspired by the song Five Little Monkeys (jumping on the bed) For the easily amused, I have embedded a YouTube video. My nephew, who is five, said he had never heard the song, and besides, he couldn't be a monkey because he had blonde hair.

    Little Bag Sewn

I made the sock bag tonight in the cherry blossom fabric for the winner from my blog contest. I used a different pattern that made the square bottom easier for me. I lined it with solid pink fabric from stash. In knitting news, I went back to the second entrelac sock from the Annetrelac pattern in the holiday 2007 Interweave Knits.. I planted dill and green beans in my raised bed.

    Apple Blossom, Box Bag

If I were in the ABC-along, I would have an A and  B. I have finally succeeded in making a box bag. I understand the prices I see on Etsy now. (I have so much fabric and sewing stash that I can't justify buying a bag.)  I studied every tutorial I could find on the Web. I sorta kinda followed a combination of Drago[Knit] Fly and Three Bears Little Boxy Pouch. ( I cannot find the link right now.) tutorials. My first one, now cut up for scraps, was long and skinny, as I put the zipper the wrong way. This one is still a little long, but it holds a center-wound 100g ball of sock yarn, which is what I wanted. The zipper pull is festooned with a charm thingie I got at the dollar store.

The sushi fabric came from Ebay. The zipper is a purse zipper from Zipper Stop.com The lining, with Asian characters, came  from Hancock. My hesitation in making one, was figuring out what to do about the raw seams showing in the lining. I bound the raw seams with bias tape.

    Saturday Sewing

I sewed another sockie bag today, right before DH and I left for the theater to see the new Harry Potter movie. DH got a new electric chainsaw at Sears in the mall, too. I was so careful to get the kitty cats right side up with the zipper. Then I got the handle on the wrong end.. Oh well. This is a box bag from Simplicity 9949, and I think next time I will make a little bit larger bag. I got 9 purse  zippers from Zipperstop.com.  When we got home, the CueCat scanner from Library Thing was here. It doesn't read like the Symbol scanners I'm used to in the library. DH has been on a quest to find and add books no one else has. There are a lot of Star Trek fans on LT, apparently. One book on Ancient Rome he got today was not found on Amazon or Library of Congress.

    Scrappy Quilt

Y'all, I just had to show you  my Aunt Eupha's quilt. This photo arrived in my e-mail today. This is really impressive.. She calls it her Scrappy Quilt, made from her fabric scraps, and she declares she will never make another one, but will throw scraps out! This and bridge has consumed all her time lately. Oh yeah, she is around 90 years old. Click for larger image.

    Sewing, Etc.

I have been wanting to make a little zipper pouch for knitting notions. I had fabric left over from sewing my knitting bag, and a leftover bit of bias tape.. All I needed to get was a 7" zipper. Now I have several. Anyway, I used this tutorial, and some of the Knit Wits knitting themed fabric. I don't like putting in zippers, so it took me a while to figure out what I was doing. It is pretty cute! I need to make a zipper pull. (Edited to add: I added a fishy stitch marker for a zipper pull.)  The inside has knitting terms. (I don't know what happened to the photos that I posted the other day, so I loaded them again. Sigh)

    Little Sockie Bag

I have not gotten a whole lot done on Ariann today, but I have another sockie bag made following Trek's directions, for my trip, since I don't want to take my big knitting bag. The fabric is left over from my big bag, so they coordinate. Now which almost-finished second sock should I pack? April is not looking good for Socktopia patterns...

    Sewing Day

The sky was so yucky and gray today,  that I tried to find interesting things to put in my Saturday sky photo. The girls were closer to me, until the dang puppies chased them away. Honey did stop momentarily and look at me to wonder why I was saying, "No, idiots, stop chasing the horses."

So I stayed inside and sewed on my Amy Butler Ultimate Arts and Craft Tote. There were an awful lot of pieces, to get ALL those pockets made. This is Michael Miller fabric, the cat print is Knit Wits, the red has knitting words, and the black is yarn.

Wanna talk about stash? I think I have WAY more sewing stuff than knitting... The Bernina demands expensive metal bobbins and imported needles. I broke three needles today.

I worked on the bag for a couple hours yesterday-it was mostly all cut out months ago- but I sewed from 9-3 today. Voila, it's finished

    Sky, Fabric, Yarn

    Don't need much else, right?
It rained a little bit today, but the sun tried to stay out a little.

Fabric I got from the clearance bin to make a sockie bag, most likely. I also got beads and things for stitch markers.

    Photo at Last

Teabag_2 Well, I have been looking for this picture for a couple of days, and I finally located it on my jump drive. This is the bag I made for the Knit Socks Kit Swap. It has yarn in it, as I snapped this right before I sent my package off to my pal, who was on vacation in England. Annie finally returned to open it. She has more photos on her blog. The bag is based on Trek's bag, and I managed to not sew the top together wrong. The design is machine embroidery, from my other expensive hobby.
